If I have one broadband connection to the net and a couple computers/devices connected via wifi, is the bandwidth split up between the devices? What if I need everything running at broadband speeds?

Do places like bookstores and coffee shops that offer wifi pay huge fees for huge amounts of bandwidth so that everyone can connect at high speeds?

Is using a router different than using a Y splitter to share the Internet?

Thanks.

Depending on how your network is configured, you might find NetLimiter useful in apportioning bandwidth:

Using a router, instead of a Y-splitter, gives you the protection of a hardware firewall. Not a bad idea when using WiFi. Wink
