Thanks for the link ..very interesting.
I see Gmer detects ALL but PrevxCSI is pretty good, especially for a new product!
I would be interested in knowing what kind of removal options PrevCSI offers (ie high level).
As far as the 1/5 stat goes the same article states this which is contradictory.
| Quote: | | Since 1 December 2007, 114,891 new users have run Prevx CSI with rootkit-detection features enabled. Of those PCs, 1,678 had what Prevx describes as 'significant rootkit infections'. That equates to 1.46% or approximately one in 70 systems, which is almost 15 times higher than the one in 1,000 rootkit-infected PCs previously estimated by industry experts. |
I guess you have to take into account the word "significant" but they do not elaborate on what that means. Does it mean the rootkit is running and actively hiding with a fully functional backdoor? It would be nice if that term was qualified and if they explained why the reported rates of infection are so different, in each case. I don't think anyone with a rootkit infection would deem it as being insignificant. _________________ Negster22 - MS MVP - Consumer Security 2006-2008
