i was just wondering if a store bought version of xp when trying to install would delete any other partitions on the hard drive or would it leave it alone?

I think there is an option to define the partitions during setup, but I am not sure.

Anybody else...?

No luke,

windows does not automatically delete or format any partitions while installing. You are given a choice of the partitions you have available, and also a choice of whether or not to format the partition you choose to install windiws on. (While windows does not need a formtted partition to instal onto, its always best to format the partition you choose -after you've backed up any data on it ofcourse.)

Heres a good guide to reinstalling windows if you've never done it before..

I don't genereally delete the partition as michael suggests in point 10, press enter to select the partition you want, and there you have an option to format the partition.
