So far, to sum it up, in Device Manager in Windows 2000 SP4 after selecting View > Show Hidden Devices, the Non-Plug and Plays devices section doesn't show up. It used to show up, but it doesn't do so anymore. I've read + added the environmental variable suggested by Microsoft, I'm running as administrator, and it doesn't show up in safe mode either. Any ideas?

I posted a reply before - did you look to see if the following keys exist (I am copying them form Vista, but they *should* theoretically be the same, as M$ does not like messing around and changing the location of such critical data in the registry:

Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root

and
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Enum\Root

All the keys under those two should have at least 1 subkey, 0000, with the parameters that you see in DM when viewing hidden devices....

Sorry about the repost; by the time I checked to see your reply the database had already crashed, so I never saw it.
Also, I'm assuming you meant ControlSet001 and ControlSet002 not 003.
Almost all the keys have the 0000 subkey, except for *PNP0501, Media, and LEGACY_SPTD (the SPTD driver for Daemon Tools).
