Hopefully this is the right section for this to be posted in. If not, can an admin please move it to the correct place?
I recently purchased a D-Link DGL-4100 router so that my computer and my girlfriend's computer can share our internet connection. The install was smooth and easy, however my computer's online performance was suffering greatly. After determining that the router wasn't at fault, i checked to see if maybe it was a firewall issue.
When i went into the Windows XP Control Panel > Security Center, i found that not only was the Windows Firewall turned on, i also had McAfee Personal Firewall Plus running as well. I've never used McAfee at all, but when i received my computer from Dell, it had some McAfee trial software installed, which i promptly uninstalled, or so i thought.
I've been trying to get rid of the McAfee firewall for the last couple of days, but have had no luck. I've followed advice from other sites that can be found here and here , to no avail.
When i go into the Control Panel to check on the firewall, it still shows that the McAfee firewall is running. When i turn on the Windows Firewall, i get a message informing me that i have two firewalls running.
I'm at my wits end and don't know what else to do. Can anyone help me? Thank you very much in advance. I have a Dell XPS 400, running Windows XP with SP2 installed.

I checked and it does not show up in task manager, nor does it show up when i run ProceXP. The only place it appears is when i go to control panel > security center and click on Windows Firewall. If i enable the Windows firewall, i get a message telling me that two firewalls are enabled.

then the error is in wbem repository which you can try and rebuild
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/en-us/management/wmi_faq.mspx
even if the rebuild doesn't work it does not affect the comp (slowd own browsing). Do you have another AV running? No chance of malware causing the slowdown?

I've got Kaspersky A/V 7.0 running.
I've done virus/ad/mal/spyware scans, and everything has come up clean. Being that McAfee appears to have been successfully removed from my system, i guess i'm back to looking at my router as the culprit behind my troubles?
My girlfriend's computer is hooked up to the router and it runs fine. On my machine, Firefox loads pages sporadically, if at all, and Limewire sometimes doesn't connect at all; when it does connect, it does so with only a fair connection, as opposed to a very strong or 'turbo charged' connection as was the norm before all this started.

Your best bet is to visit the McAfee forum which can be found here.
I've had problems uninstalling some McAfee products before, and if you start a thread asking there....you should have a moderator or knowledgeable McAfee user who can help by providing some specific instructions, or provide some special software tools that will help with the uninstallation.
HTH....good luck
