|
|
I downloaded new free version of AVG8 from http://free.grisoft.com and after installing it, I clicked on the icon to run it. I get this error stating:
" C:\Program File\AVG\AVG8\avgui.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application mayfix this problem. "
I've uninstalled and installed it twice to no effect. Still getting the error. Any suggestion?

maybe the downloaded install file was corrupt, did you try downloading another copy?

Nah it wasn't the file being corrupted. I uninstalled the avg8 then ran the ccleaner and cleaned out the registery after that I installed and updated the avg8 with no problems at all.

Hi - I had exactly the same problem, BUT nothing has sorted it. Downloaded ccleaner, found lots of stuff, but AVG 8 still won't run...
have downloaded a second time, rebooted, removed the AVG folder etc etc.
Of course the previous version of AVG was de-installed by the version 8 installation process, so I now have no AV protection - any suggestions appreciated.

|
|
I was having the same problem on my sister's laptop. After multiple failed attempts and trying the suggestions here, I looked in the Event Viewer and found an error and a warning:
Application Event 1014 against MsiInstaller, Windows Installer proxy information not correctly registered.
Application Event 1015 against MsiInstaller, failed to connect to server. Error 0x80070424.
Apparently, even after AVG gave me the message that the installation was complete, it really wasn't.
I re-registered the Windows Installer component, rebooted and was able to successfully install AVG and run the user interface.
To re-register Windows Installer:
Unregister Windows Installer first, by typing the following in a CMD window and hitting the Enter key:
msiexec /unreg
Next, in the same CMD window, re-register Windows Installer by typing the following and hitting the Enter key:
msiexec /regserver
Hope this helps...

Thanks CTBeth - tried your suggestion, but it didn't work - I still get the same "application failed to start because the configuration is incorrect"
Why do their managers let coders get away with this sort of utterly useless error message ?

I am not sure if it was clear from my previous posting that after I re-registered the Windows Installer, I uninstalled AVG, rebooted the machine and then reinstalled AVG.
If this doesn't help you, have you checked in your event viewer to see if you can find any errors or warnings that might be related?
As for the ambiguous error. I'm not sure it's the fault of the AVG coders. Do a search on the error message and find that it occurs in many other places outside of AVG.
