Congrats for the pointage.

Oh, BTW - at school, I am now in charge of a massive server - and when I say massive, let me put it like this:

8 Xeon Quad Core CPUs (yes, 8 - I visually verified this myself - main board has a separate 'CPU' board raised up, almost as if on stilts, above the main board) and each has 4 GB of RAM per processor....

Care to hit 14 million units in a couple of months? Razz

Is Folding@home still not yet BOINC-able?

I may well be wrong but I think that there were just too many issues with making a BOINC client for F@H so they abandoned the idea. The PS3 client has been very successful and they are also pushing ahead with clients for GPUs which are very good for those sort of calculations, after all, that's what they were built for! Very Happy The new GPU2 clients are giving excellent results and a lot of people are eagerly awaiting the beta of the NVidia GPU2 client (the ATI beta GPU2 client is already available).

They have already passed the 2 PetaFlop mark (although they did slip back below it again briefly) with the PS3 contributing 7.5 times the computing power of the Windows PCs and the GPU clients already contributing nearly 2.5 times the power of the Windows PCs. Also, their (very) experimental SMP client is rather unstable and needs significant work to make it run reliably so any spare time that they have will probably be spent on that. Given all that and the fact that they nearly ran out of work units at one point, they probably do not feel the need to spend time on creating a BOINC client! Wink

Oh, I nearly forgot - they are also close to releasing version 6 of the classic F@H client. Whew!! You can keep up to date at the Folding@Home (Community) Support Forums.

If you prefer BOINC (and it sounds like you do!), you can always run Rosetta@Home which sounds (to me anyway) like a similar project to F@H.

Shocked Wow! Things are happening! Only ATI GPUs are supported at this point I take it. Which ones?

According to http://foldingforum.org/viewforum.php?f=42 the client uses 2xxx/3xxx series cards.

And, if you want more specs and whatnot, be sure to take a look at http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?p=22633#p22633 and http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=2080 for old and new CPU / GPU combos (ATI).

Also at that forum is their beta nVidia client, http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=3186

The beta nVidia client is now up to 6.12 Beta 8. Preliminary results are available in the nVidia GPU2 beta testing forum.
