|
|
Ok, here is what happened. Oh, and i'm new at the boards:
I bought the Norton AntiVirus 2004 from BestBuy, I installed on my computer, it asked for the product key and yadda yadda yadda. I restarted, i was not able to open the Desktop icon for it, the only way i could view the contents is by right clicking on the icon on the bottom right task bar (you know, by the clocktime), and click on Configure. I couldn't open Norton and activate the product. Three days later, i accidently changed the date to May, and than i turned it back to today's date. And then i got the red X over the icon on the bottom right (it disabled).
I exchanged the product with a new one from Best buy, uninstalled the previous one by following the instruction from their website, and i installed the new one, this time, it didn't even ask me for the new product key, so i'm back to the beginning where i can't activate and it will expire in like 12 days if i don't, can anyone help here, i don't know what to do.
I tried uninstalling it and re-installing, but same thing. Is there something i'm doing wrong here?

ok, here is the latest update. After installing Norton AntiVirus 2004. I can't open the program. All i can do is configuration. So, with out opening the program, i can't activate it. I rightclicked the Desktop icon to view the target location and it says ""C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\cfgwiz.exe" /GUID NAV /CMDLINE "NO REBOOT""
now, what does that mean, /guid nav / cmdline "no reboot" , anyone?

Hi;
This would be my suggestion, in an attempt to fix the problem via a "clean" re-install.
1. Disconnect from the Internet, to avoid virus attacks while you do the reinstallation of your Anti-Virus program.
2. Uninstall Norton Anti-Virus using "add/remove software" from Control Panel in Windows.
3. After rebooting from the uninstall, remove the following registry Key, if it exists (may or may not be there):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Norton AntiVirus
4. Delete the following directories off your hard drive, if they exist:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec
C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus
5. Now reinstall Norton Anti-Virus 2004, register by phone, and after rebooting re-enable your Internet connection, update Norton Anti-Virus, and perform a complete system scan.
Try that out, it should do the trick.
