On a PC with WIN 2k or XP go to start|run|cmd and type iconfig /all at the prompt. Locate your wireless NIC and the MAC address is listed as "Physical Address".
On a PC with 95/98 go to start|run|command and type winipcfg at the prompt. This will bring up a small window that will display a number of settings including the MAC.
The MAC is also printed on your NIC, whether it is an internal PCB or a PC card on a laptop. It consists of 6 pairs of hexadecimal digits separated by hyphens.
I really don't know how to find that on a MAC (computer) _________________

You might also look at turning off the broadcasting of your SSID and enabling WEP encryption to further secure your systems. with all 3 of these done you are about as secure as it is practical to be. _________________ Questions? Try the wiki

thanks for all your replies,
i have to admit - i don't know how to set up WEP, or turn off my SSID.
i go into my router config and i know WHERE to do it, but i can't seem to figure it out without losing the connection.
also - i can't do MAC filtering becasue i don't know how to find the MAC address on my apple.
SO - although you have been very kind in taking the time to try to help me... this newbie is still at square one.
help????

You can't do that on the Speedstream 2623; it's always on.

If the wireless device in your Apple is not a Speedstream product, it is possible they are incompatible in that respect. Even if it is, it's still possible they won't work with each other without updating the firmware in both devices.

Don't bother if you're concerned about security in an apartment complex. WEP is like a lock that can be picked with a bent paper clip - it just keeps honest people honest. At the very least, you need WPA, available in only the latest products. Siemens won't be releasing a firmware upgrade to add this feature to the 2623.
I hate to break this to you, but Speedstream products were dogs and not worth the packaging they came in. The user's manual that accompanied the 2623 is just plain awful, and therein lies one source of your frustration.
If security is a primary concern for you and you can't buy better gear, perhaps wireless networking is not for you just yet. _________________ Your Jedi mind tricks won't work on me, Skywalker.
