Interesting problem with a friends computer. The thing is ancient so don't be too overwhelmed by the specs of it. It is a Windows 95 computer and this particular person is trying to browse and recieve email. When you dialup the computer everything connects fine and at a decent connection speed (as far as dialup is concerned) the problem, is pretty much everything else. As of right now I cannot explore via a web browser, ping, telnet, and when I try to do an Ipconfig I get an error. So as you can see I'm having some issues with it. I've already tried a winsock fix and tried to reinstall dialup networking on the computer. There is no firewall protection on the computer, so this should not be a firewall protection error. There is virus protection on the computer but nothing that includes a personal firewall. I figure the problem has to be a networking problem with windows per the ipconfig error I recieve (by the way I try this in both the command line and winipcfg in windows). I'm trying not to have to have to a reinstall so if anyone has any info on this it would most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ok, as of right now the problem is not limited to simply a dialup connection because it also cannot connect when using a usb adapter to connect to an internal network. Any help here would be great.

Determined that a re-os was unavoidable. Some how the networking properties of Windows had become corrupt, and rather than fight to reinstall those properties on the computer, I recommended a re-os for the computer and an upgrade Win 98 or later.
