Hi hope you can help?,,i have just got everything set up just how i want it on my PC and am pleased all is working ok,until i downloaded the latest update of AVPE through the manual updater.
All went welll as usual quite a big update new PROGRAM and VDF files 4884kb+,had to close all programs and re-install plus re-setup AVPE as i have done before when a new program is updated,no problem,so far.
Then my PC went into hibernation mode, should have been screen saver?,do not know why it did that first time it done that?,when i came back from taking dog out when i moved the mouse i had lost the AVPE GUARD in the TOOLBAR (RED UMBRELLA),any ideas on this?.
Strange, especially as when i go into START/ALL PROGRAMS,AVPE the MAIN AVPE PROGRAM and GUARD are there, and if i click on the GUARD it appears on th eDESKTOP and in th eTOOLBAR too?,but when i start up the PC the GUARD does not appear ,some help appreciated thanks.

regards

Hibernation is for long term use (days or weeks), not for gone for an hour. You should disable it. When I go out for a half hour I use the Universal Screensaver. I leave my tower power on and turn off my monitor. Really, it's just a fancy TV. Saves power and the screen. Wink

Here is a work-around for your problem. Using Windows Explorer browse to your AVPE folder. Find the AVGuard program which is called avgctrl.exe. Right-click it and chose Create Shortcut from the menu box. The shortcut will appear at the bottom of the folder. Click and drag it on to the desktop.

After your pc boots up, double-click on the AVGuard icon on your desktop and it will load the AVGuard program.

All the best!

Hi there thanks back for the reply and for the help and useful tip!,AVPE seems ok now since i downloaded it again!, then un-installing the current one, which was the latest and up to date, very annoying!.
The question is: -
1/ why did my PC go into hibenation mode in the 1st place?,it usually goes into screen saver mode after 15 minutes anyway- always has?.
2/ what caused me to lose the AVPE GUARD in the 1st place?,even more strange when i looked in the START/ALL PROGRAMS/AVPE the CONTROL PROGRAM and the GUARD was in there and i could click on the GUARD and it appeared on the desktop and in the toolbar, but when re-booting XP windows the GUARD it did not appear back in the TOOLBAR?.
Any ideas?

regards

Sorry for the late reply. Been awfully busy.

I would suspect that your old AVPE was corrupted somehow. You can get some very weird things happening if the files are even slightly wrong. It can cause conflicts with your other softwares, OS and even your hardware. Computers like to be, and have, everything perfect. This is not often the case in reality.

I am glad everything works okay now. Wink

Best regards

Very Happy Thanks for the reply; back prince, yes everything seems to be ok now(touch wood),i honestly thought i had maybe a virus that was de-activating the guard or something else?,but all the independant virus and trojan scans i had done proved that not to be the case.I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem as me,un-installing AVPE and then re-insatlling seems to work-but that seems a bit tiresome aftere a while!,i lik eto get the bottom of it and find out WHY this is happening especially as the AV GUARD program IS listed in the START/ALL PROGRAMS and can be clicked/dragged and there it appears on the DESKTOP and in the TOOBAR,strange.THanks.

best regards
