I have some problems with my network.
This is the problem. I live in a house with 2 friends and we are connected to the internet through a router. I have created a network between the pc's. The problem is that my friends can't acces my pc, but I can acces there pc's and they can acces there pc's. It say something about: No acces to \\Server. not the right authorizations.
Server is the name of my pc.
Can you help me?

as paul asked what OS are you useing? did you share the folder and or hard drive on your system so the other system can connect to it? can you see the both systems in my network places?

We need to know what the O.S. is on all three computers.

I'm using XP pro and my friends are using XP Home.

I am doing some research on how you need to configure your PC to allow access. XP Home and XP Pro do not have the same networking defaults. Your PC is probably defaulting too the security that is requried for a NT Domain while the "home" PCs are using a Workgroup security model. I do not have "home" to play with but remember seeing something about this while researching another problem. I will get back to you .

Well I thought of something that we should check right off. Do you have a firewall running on your computer? If so, try truning it off for a test.

Pay close attention to the stuff at the top about Simple File Sharing .
It seem like I saw a problem like your that had it's roots in this.

Check your machine to make sure that it is set this way.

BTW, have you tried mapping a drive from one of the "home" machines to a share on your computer?

I have turned the firewall of already, it doesn't make any difference.
Can you explane your last sentence:

What I mean by mapping a drive is to assign a drive letter to the shared folder on your machine. This makes the system think that the folder on your system is a drive on their system. This is done on the computer that is connecting to your computer.

You can try this by starting My Computer then select tools from the menu. The first line on the pull down menu is "Map Network Drive...". This will allow you to select the drive letter that you want to assign and browse for the correct folder. Make sure to pick a letter that is not already in use. I suggest starting with J: or K:.

This may work or it may not work. It really depends on what the problem is that is keeping you from accessing the computer. What happened with the Link that I posted above? Did it help?

you need to set permissions for the home computers to connect to the pro

make sure they are all in the same workgroup first

by default the pro machine is going to try to use the uname and status of the computer trying to connect to it and if it does not match the permissions set on the directories or the user accounts it will deny it.

so easy enough....find out the uname of your friends and then add them as users on your pc...with passwords of course.

if your friends say "I don't log in" or "I don't have a uname" it is most likely going to try to log onto your computer as Administrator or Owner...neither of which will work since they are not passing the correct credentials.

In either case...you will have to configure your server and their machines to pass common user names and passwords and you in turn will have to share files/folders with permissions in regards to those user names and passwords.

This is a common problem of xppro...since it tries to automatically log on the user of the pc without asking for credentials.

If it's not anything that has been suggested or that.... I'm stumped.
