|
Just installed AntiVir on my system and have a question. I am running Zone Alarm and the traffic indicator is flashing on and off every other second, it is showing AntiVir Guard accessing the net. Why? Searched the help file and cant find anything. Is it suppose to do this?
Thanks.

Howdy,
Since the release of the new version 6.26., one of the major changes is the switch to TCP/IP as the communication protocol between the AVGuard Control Program (red umbrella) and the AVGuard service under NT, 2000 and XP.
Please note that this may cause most of the personal firewalls to issue a warning message regarding a connection request of AVGNT.EXE and an open port 18350 of AVGUARD.EXE. Please note that AntiVir does not connect to the Internet in this case but to the local computer at IP 127.0.0.1 (localhost) which should be allowed.
Please make sure your firewall in is learning mode and that you allow the connection (and all further connection) of this application.
You should note that AntiVir makes a so called DNS request to port 53 to resolve the name "localhost". This is normal and has nothing to do with INternet access. DNS is commonly used to resolve the Internet names like 'www.free-av.com' into an IP address like 62.146.66.180. You can verify this by typing 'nslookup localhost' from a Command Prompt (NT and higher only). _________________ "Anyone who considers protocol unimportant has never dealt with a cat."
