I've just installed Real VNC on my two computers - both xp home sp2.

I installed both viewer and server on both.

On one (called Guinevere) i can view the other (Arthur) easily.

However, I can't view Guinevere through arthur. It comes up with an error that it couldn't connect to the host.

Both machines have static IP addresses, and I can ping the other one from both machines. The settings are the same, I don't know why it doesn't work.

They have no firewall software running.

Guinevere is directly connected to my router.

Arthur is connected directly to a wireless bridge which links to the router.

Their can't be a problem with the newtorking issue, as they can both ping each other, and Guinevere can view and control Arthur fine.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

BTW Norbie, I had a virtually identical problem a few months ago. It turned out that after installing SP2 the Windows Firewall was turned on, hence VNC wasn't working. Might be worth double-checking...

thanks acheton

its was the windows firewall - it was only active on one machine, which is why it only affected one of them.

i activated them both and added the ports 5800, and 5900 to safe and it works great now Smile

thanks!

you can lock this now! Smile
