hello, i have the following problem:

i have three pc's connected with a lantastic net version 7.0 and one of them have w98se and the others w95. more over i have a hub of eigth ports and a print server (it makes the connection via utp between the pc's and two matrix printers epson fx-880). The problem is that sometimes the pc's loose the path of the ports on wichh the printers will print. i hope you understand me. i have no idea what is causing this effect. may be you can help me.thanks.

pd: all the pc's are connected to the hub via utp.

hello, when you go to printer properties and choose details you can choose the port assigned to the printers. for example:

\\Printserver\port1 (I refer to this as path,sorry)

the problem is that the printers loose this configuration. cheers for the reply and apologyze me for my engilsh.

I just wanted to know if you were using ip's in the paths or names is all.

Don't worry about your english--you are coming across just fine Smile

If by "lose the ports" you mean that all the settings are there but won't connect there are several ideas I have....a few are below:

Print server ip addresses are not static and they are getting a different ip from the network and win98/95 doesn't automatically refresh... and it prolly won't either. You would have to set the ip addresses on the printers as static to help 9x along.

Sometimes when win9x machines boot on a network setup, they will try to restore network connections and if the connection is not available...such as the printer being turned off... it won't see the connection unless you redo it or restart the computer. You can check by making sure all print devices are on and connected to the network before the 98x machines are on for a few days and see if it happens again and then turn one off and try booting and then turning on the printer to see if the connection is made by the computer.

Hope that helped or inspired another solution.

Good Luck! Very Happy
